Downtown Boulder is home to a wide variety of activities, sure to offer whatever type of entertainment you're seeking. Boulder is well known for its healthy lifestyle, which is evidenced by its many nearby biking and hiking trails, health food stores and restaurants, and alternative medicine and vitamin shops. Boulder is a unique mix of yuppies and liberals, environmental groups, and spiritual groups. It's a freethinking, health-conscious city with a small-town feel.
Weather permitting, you will find street performers throughout the Pearl Street Mall. Even winter months offer such entertainment periodically, as Boulder enjoys warm, sunny days even in the middle of winter. Snowfall typically melts quickly, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy nice days throughout the year.
As a college town (home to the University of Colorado), Boulder also has many evening activities. Many bars, restaurants, and nightclubs offer live bands or top DJs, playing a variety of musical styles. Rock, hip-hop, techno, jazz ... anything you want!
Downtown Boulder also provides top shopping opportunities. In spring and summer, there are open-air markets specializing in organic produce, foods, and hand made art. In summer, there are often free open air concerts in the city park, located in the middle of the market. Spend the day shopping, eating, and listening to music, all without leaving the area. Year-round shopping opportunities include unique, eclectic boutiques ranging from high-end clothing, rare books, geographic interests, and pampered pet products.
You will find restaurants ranging from the most luxurious to casual, budget-friendly locations. Accommodations range from high-end spas to chain hotels in all price ranges. One important consideration is that if you are planning your trip around the time of any major college events, such Homecoming or graduation, you will need to make your reservations well in advance. The town becomes very crowded during those times, so unless that is why you are visiting, it's better to choose a different time.
